“We sell out every year,” says Inzerillo. A recipe developed and refined over the past four years includes 1,000 pounds of pears, 300 pounds of sugar, 150 pounds of golden raisins and 150 gallons of water. “When you’re working with fruits other than grapes, you have to have a recipe,” he says. “Grapes are complete; you don’t have to add anything. But you can make wine out of anything as long as you balance the sugar.”. The careful balancing act begins with pears fermented in champagne yeast, followed by filtering and bottling after testing for sugar content to drop from 15 percent to close to 1 percent. This show will be juried by Bryan Mark Taylor, an award-winning nationally recognized plein-air artist. Twenty-seven participating artists will have their canvases time-stamped June 21-23 at the gallery, and will have until June 28 to do their plein-air painting(s) of one or more of Walnut Creek’s many scenic sites, such as Heather Farm Park, Lime Ridge and Shell Ridge open space areas, downtown Broadway Plaza, the Bancroft Gardens, Borges Ranch and historic homes to name a few. Work can be finished in the studio. Only two-dimensional originals painted during the paint-out dates will be accepted.
