And on closing night, March 8, Cinequest will honor producer Mike Medavoy, whose life would make for a pretty good movie. Born in Shanghai to Jewish parents, Medavoy was a big deal at United Artists when it was turning out quality movies in the 1970s like “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Rocky” and “Annie Hall.” He left in 1978 with other UA execs to form Orion Pictures, which produced some amazing crowd-pleasers like “Dances With Wolves,” “The Terminator” and “The Silence of the Lambs.” I bet that guy has a few stories to tell, and we’ll find out what he says March 8.
